Publication and Presentation Policy
Purpose of the Publication and Presentation Policy
As part of the Network’s mission to facilitate the “dissemination” of research findings, it is important to clarify the Network’s expectations for how research conducted within the Network will be shared with the greater scientific and lay community. Further, research conducted within Rx-SafeNet will involve significant collaboration between academic researchers, practicing pharmacists, and learners of various levels who may bring different experiences and expectations to the research collaboration process. This document outlines the expectations for all involved with the research process, as related to publishing and presenting research findings from Rx-SafeNet projects.
Publication and Presentation Expectations for Research Conducted in Collaboration with Rx-SafeNet
- The Principal Investigator of each project is responsible for ensuring that authorship and acknowledgements in their project’s publication follows the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals. [Available at: https://www.icmje.org/about-icmje/faqs/icmje-recommendations/] It is expected that all individuals that work closely on these projects will be an author on publications as long as these requirements are met. There is no expectation that Rx-SafeNet personnel would be included as authors/contributors unless these requirements have been met.
- It is expected that all research conducted within Rx-SafeNet will ultimately be published in a scientific journal.
- Professional presentations (i.e., posters and podiums) may be prepared by the project team with the PI responsible for taking the lead and ensuring adequate communication among investigators as far as roles and responsibilities related to presentations. The Rx-SafeNet logo should be used only following approval by Network personnel.
- A summary of research findings from each project may be prepared for distribution to Network membership. Final journal citations should then be provided to the Network Director for inclusion of these documents on the Rx-SafeNet website. Investigators are encouraged to share copies of journal articles which will also be shared with Network members.
- Rx-SafeNet may share project summaries (with appropriate citations) during meetings or presentations about the work of the network to describe the research that has been accomplished.
- All publications resulting from research conducted within Rx-SafeNet should include the following suffix as part of the publication’s title: “A Study from the Medication Safety Research Network of Indiana.” In the case of collaborations where Rx-SafeNet is one of several data collection locations, the study PI should speak with the Network Director regarding the appropriate way to acknowledge Rx-SafeNet’s role, prior to submission of the manuscript or abstract. In the description of study sites, papers/abstracts/oral presentations must describe that the research was conducted within the Medication Safety Research Network of Indiana (see example text below). Authors may only list specific study sites with permission of the pharmacy owner/manager or other appropriate individual with authority to grant permission.
Example Text:
“This study was conducted in collaboration with the Medication Safety Research Network of Indiana (Rx-SafeNet), a statewide practice-based research network of community pharmacies.” This text may be modified as needed.
