Pharmacy Women’s Leadership Award
The Pharmacy Women’s Leadership Award is presented annually by the Pharmacy Women for Purdue (PWFP) to recognize alumni of the College of Pharmacy who have made significant contributions to and demonstrated exemplary involvement with the college and, in doing so, have contributed to the advancement of women in pharmacy. They must demonstrate significant and sustained volunteer leadership through service to the professional community. The recipient must also demonstrate engagement in the mentorship of colleagues and students. Nominations for this award come from the PWFP Steering Committee and the College’s faculty and staff. 2025 Pharmacy Women’s Leadership Award

Bernadette (Bonnie) Brown (BS ’79, PharmD ’81)
Bernadette (Bonnie) Brown’s journey began at Purdue University, where she earned her BS in Pharmacy degree in 1979 and her PharmD degree in 1981. She then started her career as a clinical pharmacist in health-system and long-term care facilities located in the Indianapolis area.
Bonnie was later hired away to start an over 25-year “tour of duty” as a faculty member at Butler University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, where she made lasting contributions, most notably as the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs and then Associate Dean for the College. She also served as a Professor of Pharmacy Practice, teaching in both the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences and the pharmacy programs. Bonnie recently retired from Butler College of Pharmacy after an outstanding career. The Faculty Assembly awarded her an Emerita Professor appointment upon retirement.
Bonnie has always been a dedicated leader in the pharmacy profession. On the national stage, she made significant contributions to the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP), serving as Chair of the Council of Sections from 2020-2021 and on the AACP Board of Directors from 2019-2022. In recognition of her contributions to pharmacy education, she received the AACP 2020 Administrative Services Section Award, honoring her contributions, outstanding impact, and commitment to pharmacy students and education.
At the state level, Bonnie’s leadership was equally substantial, serving in numerous roles with the Indiana Pharmacy Association (IPA), including as President in 2008. From 2014 to 2018, she was President of the IPA Pharmacists Education Foundation, overseeing acquisition of funding for scholarships for pharmacy students in Indiana. Bonnie’s contributions were recognized in 2018 with the prestigious Bowl of Hygeia Award, celebrating her outstanding community outreach and leadership.
Bonnie also devoted several years to the Hook’s Drug Store Museum Board, serving as both a volunteer and leader for this important landmark located at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis.
Bonnie and her husband, Brian Brown, are strong supporters of Purdue University.

Winifred (Winnie) Landis (BS ’81)
Winifred (Winnie) Landis’s journey began at Purdue University, where she earned her BS in Pharmacy in 1981. Since then, she has dedicated over 40 years to the field of community pharmacy. Winnie started her career with Albertsons/Osco Drug and later, she was employed by CVS. With both companies, she served as a pharmacy manager for many years. In addition, she earned her certification as a diabetes educator, further solidifying her commitment to patient care and community pharmacy. Winnie recently retired after an outstanding career.
Winnie’s leadership extended beyond community practice. At the state level, she served as President of the Indiana Pharmacy Association (IPA) in 1992 and served as a board member of the IPA Pharmacists Education Foundation. Her contributions to the profession were recognized in 1998 with the Bowl of Hygeia Award, a prestigious honor celebrating her leadership and dedication to community service.
For 28 years (1995-2023), Winnie also served on the Indiana Board of Pharmacy – shaping the landscape of pharmacy practice in the state.
On the national stage, her work with the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) has been extensive. She is a proud fellow of the APhA and has held multiple significant roles, including serving as an officer with the APhA Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management Community/Ambulatory Practice Section. She also served as Chair of the APhA New Business Review Committee, and served multiple terms on the APhA Board of Trustees. In 2007-2008, she served as APhA president.
Winnie’s influence also extended to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), where she served on the OTC Advisory Panel from 2009 to 2015. Starting in 2019, Winnie has served as a member of the board of directors for the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).
Closer to home, Winnie has remained deeply connected to Purdue University College of Pharmacy. She is a former member of the Dean’s Advisory Council and has served as a steering committee member for Pharmacy Women for Purdue. In 1994, Winnie was recognized as a Purdue University College of Pharmacy Distinguished Alumni, further cementing her lasting legacy at the college.
