WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Jeannie (BS ’61) and Jim Chaney have made a $100,000 gift in support of Purdue University’s Center for Community Health Enhancement and Learning as part of the university’s annual Purdue Day of Giving.

With this gift, the Chaneys, who are the College of Pharmacy’s most generous donors, are supporting the center’s mission of leveraging Purdue’s vast public health expertise to improve health outcomes and address health disparities.

The center, also known as HEAL, is housed in the College of Pharmacy and led by Presidential Fellow Jerome Adams, distinguished professor of practice.

“This generous gift from the Chaney Family will empower us to leverage the expertise of Purdue’s undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and postdoctoral fellows to provide on-the-ground support for local health initiatives,” Adams said. “Our multidisciplinary approach targets critical issues, such as infectious diseases, maternal and infant health, and obesity. At the heart of our mission is a commitment to community-driven public health projects, focused on delivering impactful and sustainable solutions.”

HEAL integrates academic excellence from various Purdue University colleges and departments to advance the land grant mission of making a meaningful difference in the health of local communities—something the Chaney family is passionate about.

“Jim and I support Dr. Adams because there are a lot of medical deserts where people have a lack of access to pharmacy and medical care in parts of states like Indiana and Ohio,” Jeannie Chaney said. “Dr. Adams is one the national leaders in trying to address these issues. We are thrilled he is on faculty in the College of Pharmacy.”

The Chaneys are among the most prolific benefactors in university history. They have supported a wide range of strategic opportunities at Purdue, including naming the Chaney-Hale Hall of Science and the Jeannie and Jim Chaney Dean of Pharmacy—a role held by Eric Barker, who is also the university’s Vice President for Health Affairs.

“We are immensely grateful to Jeannie and Jim Chaney for the ways their unbelievable generosity continues to transform the College of Pharmacy,” Barker said. “This gift will serve to bolster the important work of HEAL in addressing health disparities and improving public health in our local communities and beyond.”

Jeannie Chaney served as a pharmacist in Ohio for nearly 50 years prior to her retirement in 2011. She has served on the President’s Council, Pharmacy Women for Purdue Steering Committee, and the Pharmacy Alumni Board. Jim Chaney earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Denison University. He is president of Cleveland Syrup Corp., a supplier of sweeteners for food manufacturing.
