Mark Bunton

District Leader, CVS Health

Biography

Mark, a 1995 Purdue University Pharmacy alumnus, is a dynamic pharmacy executive, educator, and regulatory leader whose career spans over three decades of impact across community pharmacy, professional development, and public health policy. Currently serving as District Leader for CVS Health in West Central Indiana, Mark oversees operations for 19 pharmacies, driving excellence in patient care, compliance, and team engagement. His leadership is rooted in strategic change management, talent development, and a deep commitment to safe, efficient pharmacy practice.

Prior to his current role, Mark served as Divisional Professional Practice Leader for CVS Health, where he guided regulatory compliance, controlled substance dispensing, and pharmacist education across 715 stores in six states. His influence extended to high-level consultations on ethics and human resources (HR) strategy, and he played a pivotal role in launching initiatives such as drug disposal kiosks and opioid education programs through the Pharmacists Teach platform.

Mark’s legacy in mentorship is equally profound. As a former Pharmacy Supervisor and Intern Coordinator, he developed immersive learning experiences for Purdue University students, precepted hundreds of future leaders, and helped launch the careers of more than 19 interns who rose to district leadership roles. His guest lectures at Purdue and Butler Colleges of Pharmacy reflect his dedication to shaping the next generation of pharmacists.

Beyond corporate leadership, Mark is a respected voice in pharmacy regulation. He currently serves on the Indiana Board of Pharmacy, where he conducts inspections and contributes to national initiatives through the NABP, including expanding access to competence assessment examinations. His policy work includes collaboration with lawmakers on technician immunization rules and controlled substance prescribing practices.

Outside of his professional life, Mark has been married for over thirty years to his wife, Brenda, who has a thirty-year career as a veterinarian. They live on a 10-acre farm with their three college-aged children, where they spend the majority of their free time tending to 2 steers, 20 chickens, a dog and several cats that may or may not be in the witness relocation program. Mark is also deeply rooted in his community. He’s coached both youth baseball and varsity basketball for over 10 years—including a trip to the PONY World Series— and remains active as a church elder. He’s a small business owner and a proud member of the Indiana Pharmacist Association.
