Michael McNear is a 1979 graduate of the Purdue School of Pharmacy. Mike spent his entire career in the clinical research area, specifically the packaging, labeling and logistics for global clinical trial materials.

After a short stint at Miles Laboratories in Elkhart, Indiana, Mike joined Lorex Pharmaceuticals in Skokie, Illinois. After 10 years at Lorex, Mike moved on to Abbott Laboratories where he led their global clinical trial material operations. As the complexity and size of the clinical trials increased the industry began a trend of outsourcing these activities to specialty suppliers.

Because of this trend, Mike changed his career path and decided to join one of the entrepreneurial outsourcing startups, National Packaging in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

National Packaging was purchased by Covance witch later sold the group to Fisher Scientific. Fisher Scientific then merged with Themo Scientific forming ThermoFisher. Mike held various positions at ThermoFisher including VP of Operations, VP of Client Services, Global Innovation VP and the first General Manager of the joint venture between ThermoFisher and Lilly in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Mike then started two new business segments for ThermoFisher before his retirement in 2016.

In 2020 Mike joined the working world again and directed the startup of Catalent’s new San Diego clinical trial material facility. Mike retired in 2021 form Catalent.

Mike currently consults the industry with his personal company McNear CTM Consulting LLC. He and wife Cyndi travel the country in their motorhome and enjoy a good round of golf.
