Eric Barker, Purdue University’s vice president for health affairs and the Jeannie and Jim Chaney Dean of Pharmacy, has been named senior vice president for health affairs at Purdue. Preeti Sivasankar has been appointed interim dean of the College of Pharmacy, effective Oct. 1.
As senior vice president, Barker will have executive ownership of the university’s strategic One Health initiative and continue to have executive oversight of the colleges of Pharmacy, Health and Human Sciences, and Veterinary Medicine in coordination with their deans. With this broader role, he will step down as pharmacy dean, a position he has held since July 2017.
Among Barker’s priorities will be coordinating multiunit faculty hiring efforts for One Health, as well as developing Purdue’s health and life sciences presence in Indianapolis, strengthening the College of Agriculture’s connections to One Health, and serving as the university’s lead for initiatives related to the state of Indiana’s One Health economic efforts.
He also will provide executive leadership for the Crossroads Academic Medical Institute partnership with Marian University and develop integrative health programs with key external stakeholders.
