Track Programs
Track programs are designed to give students longitudinal experiences in a specific area of interest that would best boost their future career in those areas. Purdue has carefully selected preceptors and sites to meet the needs of students interested in careers in Industry, Hospital/Health System Pharmacy or Ambulatory Care.
Industry Tracks
Program Description
This program is designed in collaboration with selected pharmaceutical companies to challenge highly qualified students who are interested in pursuing industrial fellowships upon graduation. The program will consist of a track of up to three consecutive APPE rotations (four weeks each) at the practice site. Typical rotations may include but are not limited to: Regulatory Affairs, Research, Manufacturing, Global Marketing, Pharmacovigilance, Medical Science Affairs/Liaison, Drug Information, etc. Students will be selected to complete the industrial track sometime during the months of May-November in order to be prepared for the ASHP Clinical Midyear Meeting in December and fellowship interviews in January and February. Students are not guaranteed a fellowship solely based on the completion of this program.
Program Goals
- To match qualified students who possess a strong desire to work in the pharmaceutical industry with top quality companies for multiple APPE rotations.
- To allow students exposure to multiple areas/divisions of the pharmaceutical company
- To prepare students to be strong candidates for industrial fellowships
- To develop a strong collaborative relationship between Purdue and the pharmaceutical company.

Hospital/Health System Tracks
Program Description
This program is designed in collaboration with selected hospitals and health care systems in the Midwest region to challenge students who are interested in hospital practice or inpatient residency programs post-graduation. The program will consist of 5 consecutive APPE rotations for each student at the designated institution. Typical rotations may include but are not limited to: Hospital/Health Systems Pharmacy APPE, Adult Medicine, Critical Care, Drug Information, Infectious Diseases, Hematology/Oncology, Organ Transplant, Trauma, Administration, Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine etc. Students will be selected to complete the rotation series during the months of May-December in order to be prepared for the ASHP Clinical Midyear Meeting in December and residency interviews in January and February. Note: Students are not guaranteed a residency solely based on the completion of this program.
Program Goals
- Allow students to become familiar with a single institution and increase the amount of time allocated to patient care and clinical responsibilities
- Provide student with continual and constructive feedback between rotations
- Present students with the opportunity to work with one of their assigned preceptors on a research project
- Ensure core patient care rotations are scheduled prior to interviewing for a PGY-1 residency
Ambulatory Care Tracks
Program Description
This program is designed in collaboration with selected ambulatory care clinics and community pharmacies in the Midwest region to challenge students who are interested in ambulatory care practice or ambulatory care residency programs post-graduation. The program will consist of 3 consecutive APPE rotations for each student at the designated practice site. Typical rotations may include but are not limited to: Community Pharmacy APPE, Community Pharmacy Specialty (Women’s Heath, Compounding, Hormone Replacement, etc.), Ambulatory Care Clinics, and Ambulatory Care Administration. Students will be selected to complete the rotation series during the months of May-December in order to be prepared for the ASHP Clinical Midyear Meeting in December and residency interviews in January and February. Note: Students are not guaranteed a residency solely based on the completion of this program.

Selection of Student(s)
Interested students will complete an application for the Ambulatory Care Track Program and submit this along with a current CV, letter of intent, and ranking of desired track programs. This application will be forwarded to the designated contact person at the practice site. Ambulatory care practice sites will then be able to rank the students they are interested in precepting for this program.
